New plant in South Korea for the semicon market
Mersen inaugurates its new South Korean plant and strengthens its production capacity for the semiconductor market
Paris, October 4, 2022 – Mersen, a global expert in electrical power and advanced materials, is inaugurating its new plant in Cheonan, South Korea, at a ceremony tomorrow with more than 300 guests. The site will enable Mersen to meet fast-growing demand on the semiconductor market.
The new facilities will double Mersen’s production capacity in South Korea. Spanning 23,000 square meters, the Cheonan site specializes in the design and manufacture of monocrystalline silicon pulling furnace equipment and complex ion implantation parts for semiconductor production. The former Ssangam plant, which opened in 1990, has been relocated to Cheonan to better meet strong demand from customers, particularly in South Korea and China.
Thanks to this investment, the South Korean site’s sales could double to €60 million in the next five years. There is also sufficient space to potentially accommodate additional facilities in the future if the market continues to grow.
Luc Themelin, Mersen’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “Mersen has grown steadily in South Korea since entering this key market in 1986. We are proud to be advancing our growth strategy here with major loyal customers. Our new site will enable us to become significantly stronger in our area of excellence: graphite-based specialty products for the increasingly important semiconductor markets.”
