History
As early as 1907, Mersen deployed its first team in the United States.
For 30 years, the company's main activity has been the sale of high-quality carbon brushes.
In 1936, the first truly American company, Le Carbone Co. Inc, was born, and began machining imported carbon plates. It was established in Boonton (NJ), which is still a major Group site.
Since the 1990s, the Group has made a large number of acquisitions in the United States, in particular for the advanced materials segment, Bay City (1990) and Stackpole (1991), and for the electrical power segment, Gould Shawmut (1999).
The last acquisition in the United States was made in 2024. It concerned GMI group (Graphite Machining, Inc.), an expert in the purification and machining of graphite, carbon and graphite composites.
