Mersen Boostec inaugurates new facilities as it turns 20
- Capital expenditure of more than €6 million over three years
- Sales almost increased threefold in 5 years
- Expert capabilities in silicon carbide (SiC), a pioneer technology for the space industry
- Diversification in the semiconductor, chemicals and laser processes markets
Paris, July 5, 2019 – Mersen (Euronext FR0000039620 – MRN), a global expert in electrical power and advanced materials, has announced the inauguration of new facilities at its Bazet site in the HautesPyrénées region of France. Today also marks 20 years of success for Mersen Boostec, with the company inviting customers, partners and local officials to celebrate its anniversary.
Over the last three years, the Mersen Group has invested more than €6 million and created 25 new jobs, giving Mersen Boostec the capabilities it needs to meet the rising demand for high-tech silicon carbide (SiC) parts and position itself as the leader in premium SiC mirrors for laser processes.
Mersen Boostec has specialized in developing innovative SiC-based products for 20 years. A lightweight, rigid, stable ceramic that is virtually insensitive to temperature fluctuations, SiC is a much sought-after choice for optical instruments, particularly for space applications, due to its excellent thermo‑elastic stability. There are currently 19 all-SiC telescopes developed with Airbus Defence and Space and furnished by Mersen Boostec in space. The company’s technology was also chosen to equip the Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) developed by the European Southern Observatory (ESO), which will be the most powerful ground-based telescope in the world.
Mersen Boostec continues to diversify in other sectors, such as chemicals, with a range of components for continuous flow reactors produced in collaboration with Corning Incorporated.
Luc Themelin, Mersen’s Chief Executive Officer, commented: “Mersen Boostec is the perfect example of the excellence of our model, which provides manufacturers all over the world with innovative solutions to optimize their performance. We are very proud of how far Mersen Boostec has come as it celebrates its 20th anniversary today and are confident that it will continue to go from strength to strength in the years to come.”
Éric Guajioty, Vice President, Advanced Materials at Mersen, added: “We are delighted with these new facilities, which will help Mersen offer its customers increasingly innovative technological solutions. We also welcome the opportunity for Mersen Boostec to continue expanding, contributing to employment and development in the region.”
