Mersen Teams up with TransPod on the “Fifth Mode of Transportation” Hyperloop Project

Mersen today announced that it has signed a partnership agreement with TransPod, the Canadian startup that is building the world’s leading hyperloop system to disrupt and redefine commercial transportation.

The partnership covers the design by Mersen of innovative cooling solutions to protect the power conversion equipment enabling the capsule to travel at speeds of over 1,000 km/h in a vacuum tube.

TransPod has already designed a first half-scale prototype and will present a full-scale concept at the InnoTrans Rail show in September 2016 in Berlin.

“Mersen is proud to be joining forces with TransPod on this revolutionary project launched by visionary entrepreneur Elon Musk in 2013. The partnership is testimony to our expertise in power electronics cooling systems and our experience in rail transportation projects. It also illustrates our ability to innovate and the valuable contribution our teams can make to cutting-edge projects,” stated Luc Themelin, Mersen’s Chief Executive Officer.

“Hyperloop will be more affordable and environmentally sustainable than other forms of transportation, and will dramatically change the way people and companies travel and conduct business. TransPod’s partnership with Mersen provides us with an incredible advantage as we plan to produce a commercially viable hyperloop system by 2020,” commented Sébastien Gendron, founder and Chief Executive Officer of TransPod.
