Rupture discs designed to suit your application
GRAPHILOR® 3 bursting discs are single-piece graphite discs or rupture discs with removable membranes. They are safety devices with two functions:
- To ensure the protection of people and equipment with the bursting of the disc in case of overpressure
- To maintain the vessel pressure at its nominal value.
Graphite bursting discs are designed in accordance with the European 2014/68/UE (ex-97/23/CE), category IV part B and D of gases from the group I. The tests are carried out in accordance with European EN ISO 41 26-2 standard listing all the information the purchaser must provide to the manufacturer.

What are the types of graphite rupture discs?
There are two types of rupture discs:
- Graphite rupture discs with removable membranes: the grid and the support remain intact when the graphite membrane breaks. Only the membrane has to be replaced.
- One-piece graphite rupture discs, of which Series 5 is ideal for very high pressures and Series 6 is specially developed to withstand corrosive applications. The installation of one-piece graphite rupture discs is quick and easy. A rupture detector and thermal insulation are available as options for series 3,4 and 5. The Series 4 is vacuum resistant as an option.
Mersen offers 3 series of rupture discs with removable membranes:
- Series 1 is ideal for low pressures from 0.07 to 0.34 bar at 20°C (+ or - 25%) with a nominal diameter from 2 to 24" (50 to 600mm). Series 1 consists of a membrane associated with a graphite support
- Series 2 is ideal for medium pressure applications from 0.35 to 30 bar at 20°C (+ or - 10%) with nominal diameters from 1 to 24" (25 to 600mm). Series 2 consists of a membrane associated with a graphite support
- Series 7 is for medium to high pressure applications ranging from 1.4 bar to 80 bar at 20°C (+ or - 15%). It is available for diameters of ½ '' and ¾ '' (12.7 and 19mm). Series 7 consists of a membrane associated with a stainless steel support
Mersen offers 4 series of monobloc rupture discs,
- Series 3 is ideal for medium pressures ranging from 0.08bar to 40bar at 20°C (+ or - 10%) with nominal diameters from 1 to 24" (25 to 600mm)
- Series 4 is ideal for medium pressure and vacuum applications, ranging from 0.35bar to 40bar at 20°C (+ or - 10%) with nominal diameters from 1 to 24" (25 to 600mm)
- Series 5 is designed for very high pressures ranging from 1.2bar to 100bar at 20°C (+ or - 10%) with nominal diameters from 1 to 24" (25 to 600mm)
- Series 6 is ideal for highly corrosive applications thanks to its PFA protection. This series is suitable for medium pressures ranging from 0.1bar to 40bar at 20°C (+ or - 15%) with nominal diameters from 1 to 24" (25 to 600mm)
Bursting discs Range
Mersen proposes a large range of graphite rupture discs, from single-piece discs to discs with removable membranes, withstanding low / medium or high pressure.
Nominal size are available from DN25 (1”) to DN600 (24”) with burst pressures from 0.07barg to 100barg. Bursting discs and membranes made by MERSEN are designed to withstand a temperature range from -50°C to +165°C without any additional protective device and up to 220°C with a thermal insulation device.
